August 1999 - Laos, Thailand

hey out there!!

i just came into chiang mai from a really amazing week in laos!! its the best country ive ever been .... so friendly people, peacefull villages, amazing countryside, we did some innertubing down the mekong
river in vang vieng, drank the whole time lao coffee - the best in the
whole world - with condensed milk, did some caving in a bloody huge
cave, enjoyed dinner at the mekong river with sunrise and all that
stuff, had some really good talk to some monk in vientiane -- u wont
believe me anyway - they got images of western women on all their
walls, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, listen to music hehehe wouldnt
believe it myself, if i havent seen it. a little bit praying three times a day and that is it .... really cool thing being a monk here in laos hehe
well, met really cool group of australians, americans, scottish and dont
know whereesle and had some real cool days in vang vieng in the middle of nowhere hehe ... and if ure into drugs, its just the perfect place to do that ... the whole scenery, atmaosphere and the most important thing -- its fucking cheap ... i mean a package of weed or grass for 2000 kip ...well 9000 kip is one dollar ... u see hehe .... but as i dont take drugs it didnt matter for me ... but also the food was cheap hehe

no i could keep on telling for hours, but if u havnt been to laos yourself u will never get the right picture ... so go for it !!!

tomorrow we will do some trekking to the hill tribes, found a not so
touristic tour and also cool people from san francisco who will join us
... sounds like fun.

yesterday we got little pissed off, cause we found out that we cannot
travell through burma up to nepal overland. i mean its possible to cross the thai border overland, but then u must take a plane to mandalay or the capital, u must change 300 dollars into a special introduced foreign currency that u cannot change back and for east india u need some special permit to travell through it -  and its nearly impossible for tourists to get these permits .... so we were really pissed off and we booked a flight from bkk to calcutta and we gonna travell from there up to kathmandu ... yeah, but we have a good time, its just getting a bit more expensive, but who cares hehe

sorry for my crappy english, but im in a kind of rush and internet is
fucking expensive here ... so take care and if u re around somewhere
here in asia or india, tellme and we can meet up again ... like u emily
!!!

take care
mucki

to mike -- we met steve in luang prabang hehe was good to see him again ... if we dont meet somewhere in bkk again, then probably in edinburgh for new years eve ehehe go for it! and i also heard quite interesting stories .... smile
