June 2000 - Chile, Bolivia

hola!

wowow, dont actually know, where i should start -- too many things happened and too much to see here.
ok, well kurt and i left santiago after some couple of days to valparaiso, vina del mar, la serena, calama up to san pedro. well first not much was happening, the towns were beautiful, but that was it -- not much life, not much fun -- but when we arrived in san pedro .... ohh yeah, thats definitely the reason i travel --- fantastic landscape, u just feel like on mars, we borrowed us some bikes and boards and made our way
through fucking awsome red rocks untill we stood infront of an gigantic sand dune -- well took the board, got up there and on the board down again -- fucking incredible!! so much fun, and then the view from top of the dune .... just cant describe that.
next day we went up to the el tatio geysirs up in 4800m altitude - saw there the sunrise, reflected in the watervapor of nearly 50 geysirs .... amazing, is all i can say --- same day to the valle de la luna, where we saw the sunset .... u just have to see that for yourself.

anyway, with the thought, that it couldnt get any better, we booked a three day trip to bolivia, that takes u through the atacama desert and to all the worthabel sights. we crossed the boarder at 4000 - 5000 m -- fucking freezing - minus 17 degrees -- and saw the colorful lakes laguna verde, blanko, colorado. the last one was the best, cause the color of the
water was deep red, cause of the microorganism, that live there. the animal life is also quite cool up there -- saw flamingos, condors, lamas, and a few other that i dont know the name of .... on the second night we bumped into one of the most famous festivals in bolivia in san juan ---  ever seen anything similar befor in my whole life ---- the goddamn whole village gets pissed and stoned for 4 full days, with pissing the pants, falling down one after the other without standing up again, a band that
probably just one the "worst band in the whole world - contest", and so on and so on .... incredible, and we just in the middle of all that hehe. travelling right now with two irish, who are quite good fun .... practising my irish slang ones more .... pop my hoin! or so -- means kiss my ass and stuff like that.

after the festival we went to salar de uyuni, one of the highlights of that trip --- its an 12000 sq km huge dried out salt pan --- huge, very huge - in the middle of it a few islands, u just see them on the horizon and drive with the 4wd car right straight towards them .... with 100km/h and it takes nearly an hour --- our driver even fell asleep, but it just didnt matter, cause the whole salt pan is just plain like a paved road ... from uyuni we went straight to potosi, where im right now --- the highest city in the whole world, at 4040 meters. just have been to the mines -- depressing
experience, the working conditions are horrible and there are still thousands of people working in it -- so many poisonous gases in there - unbelievable ...

anyway - leaving tomorrow to sucre and then farther on to oruru and lapaz, from there we gonna check out the amazonas for a couple of days. really looking forward to that.

well gotta go now, dinner is ready and im already starving -- keep me informed whats happening on the other side of the world ...

ciao
mucki
